She was always and continues to be a tireless environmental activist and is currently Chair of the Cancer Prevention sub-committee of the Toronto Environmental Alliance (TEA).As WHEN's Matron of honour, Ruth shared here interest for our organization:

WHEN has always been in the forefront of efforts to prevent cancer by reducing our everyday exposure to known carcinogens in our water, air and the products we use. Their advocacy and outreach are badly needed and deserve broad support.

Jean Augustine's words of support to WHEN

The honourable Dr. Jean Augustine is the Fairness Commissioner of Ontario and former Member of Parliament in Ontario. Her list of accomplishments includes many historical firsts, such as being the first African-Canadian woman in Cabinet. It’s also thanks to Jean’s work with the Ontario Black History Society, that February is Black History Month in Canada.*As WHEN's Matron of honour, Jean wrote on the mission and importance of our organization:

Women’s Healthy Environments Network (WHEN) provides the kind of education and advice so urgently needed to maintain and focus on primary prevention of environmentally linked health concerns. The Network’s programs and outreach activities engage communities, support good environmental policy development and initiate participation through media efforts. I urge funders and supporters to continue to underscore the importance of the increasing environmental impacts on our lives and see the work of WHEN as essential to our community’s future."
